Jane Austen World paintings at Winchester Cathedral

I first met Caroline Hervey-Bathurst at Little Somborne  when I was researching Ubsdell’s 1846 watercolour of the church. In my Hampshire books I illustrated the Hampshire that Jane Austen would have known with Ubsdell’s paintings, my photographs, and beautiful old ordnance survey maps. Caroline has, in oils, watercolours, mixed media and pencil brought to life locations associated with Jane and scenes from her books. 74 of these images form an exhibition at Winchester Cathedral between the first and the eighth of June. Much of the countryside that inspired Jane still exists and makes a wonderful journey of discovery. I thoroughly recommend the exhibition to you. All proceeds from the sale of Caroline’s work go to The Southern Cathedrals Festival.
